During the early mornings of the winter of 2021, Kate would swim laps at the local pool before heading off to work as a preschool teacher. The one morning Kate's mom, Trish, decided to join her for a 5 am dip, was the day Lewis was covering for the usual lifeguard. Lewis and Trish have known each other for many years, but Lewis had no idea Trish had a daughter! After a brief introduction while Kate was still wearing her swim cap, Lewis was intrigued. The following day Trish gave Lewis Kate's phone number and they went on their first date, pond skating, soon after.
